About

This blog started out in 2011 as an Asian indie-focused blog. Now in 2020 it has shifted to an all-around indie and underground music appreciation blog. I write about underground/indie music that I think is cool, unique, and quirky.

The title “Antenna Pop” occurred while looking for a title using Japanese electronic duo CAPSULE’s discography. Their song “アンテナ” (Japanese katakana for Antenna), which is actually an interlude, is found as track 6 on CAPSULE’s sixth album “L.D.K. Lounge Designers Killer“. If you listen to the interlude, it shows a futuristic sound, as if it were a machine looking for a frequency.

For me, the “antenna” represents the way music communicates with us. This, being a blog for mostly indie and underground music, makes a very good use of the “antenna“, as in, you’ll only find this music through a frequency using an antenna. While pop, ties it in as if it were a music genre. e.x “Antenna pop is my favorite kind of pop music!” (Not like anyone would use that expression… but one can dream!)

Antenna Pop’s content is written by Pedro, a late 20s milk-tea loving queer writer and producer based in New York City.

Very cool focus; the rest of world has been in need of better coverage of the Asian indie world for a while. Any interest in covering Asian indie hip-hop? Anyway, I’ve enjoyed your posts so far and I’m looking forward to more.
